About Rhodes

Belonging to Greece, largest of two islands, Rhodes is 18 km from Bozburun Peninsula in Turkey. With both old and new architectural structures, the island is split into 2 and attracts about 1 million tourists per year. The Rhodes Castle, Knights Street, Archeology Museum, Grand Masters Palace, Butterfly Valley, Hippocrates Square, and Lindos is of the most important touristic centers. Many of the important historic artifacts are under UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. Suleymaniye Mosque, Ibrahim Pasa Mosque and Sultan Mustafa Pasa Mosque are Ottoman Legacies open to visit in Rhodes. With a warm climate, sea breeze is dominant in Rhodes. Pinus Brutia, known as Turkish pines, can be seen on this island. The island has Mediterranean coasts on the east and Aegean coasts on the west. Also, Rhodes has many holiday villages, scuba diving facilities and beaches. 
For shopping lovers, Rhodes has many options with shops in both the old and new city. The famous street Hippocrates Street is one of the well-known streets for shopping. When discussing entertainment on the island, the taverns come to mind. With Greek music playing in your ears you can feast on a fish dish. Transportation to Rhodes can be by either plane or sea. In island transportation is usually by taxi. With this, you may also rent a car, motorcycle or bike.

Rhodes, also known as the pearl of the Aegean, is home to one of the seven wonders of the world, the Colossus of Rhodes, and is the largest of the Twelve Islands. Rhodes has been a home to the history since the ages before the birth of Christ, and it still continues to do it today. The works and traces of the empires that left their mark in history, such as the Romans and the Ottomans, put Rhodes in an important place in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This gorgeous city attracts many tourists due to its long coastline and the charm of its warm climate. There is also a private marina for tourists.

Diagoras Airport is open to international flights and located 15 kilometers away from Rhodes city centre. Means of transport in the city is very limited. Buses are used extensively in the city, where taxis are the other prominent alternative. There are also ferries providing transportation if you wish to visit the rest of the Twelve Islands.

You can take the buses if you arrive at Diagoras Airport inside service hours, otherwise you can take a taxi to go to your destination in the city. If you want to make a pleasant journey in Rhodes, which has a small city centre, you can also rent a car.

Taxi

You will be surprised by the colours of the taxis in Rhodes. Stylish and appealing taxis with navy blue and white colours are located at the exit of the terminal building. Although there are sometimes queues as the airport is quite busy, taxis, which are in service 7/24, provide fast transportation.

Bus

Buses run on two lines, east and west, in Rhodes, which is a small and appealing holiday spot. There is a distance of 300 meters between the bus stops and the airport. You can take the orange coloured buses to get to the city centre from the airport. There is a bus service approximately in every 20 minutes between 06.35 and 23.00. You can get the bus tickets from the airport.

Rent a Car

As the airport traffic is quite busy, sometimes buses are overcrowded and there are long queues at the taxis. You can rent a car to stay away from these problems and the waste of time. Rent a car companies at the airport such as Avis, Hertz, Budget, Europcar and Sixt provide reasonably priced and quality vehicles 7/24.
