About Tobago

Tobago is an island country in the Southern Caribbean. It is the second largest island forming Trinidad and Tobago. The island consists of 7 regions, all of which have saint names and is home to a population of around 60 thousand people. Scarborough is the capital city of Tobago. Throughout its history, Tobago has changed hands 33 times among European countries, including Latvia. Because of this, the island is still home to many European origins of Latvia, Poland, Britain and France and is still a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Tobago is a coral island and is surrounded by hundreds of coral reefs and therefore is important for the diving and fishing tourism.

Although the islands tourism sector is still waiting to be developed, the most important income is derived from tourism. The town of Canaan in the west of the island, attracts tourists to places such as Castara Beach, Pigeon Point, Buccoo Reef, Store bay and Englishman’s Bay. It is also the hometown of famous Manchester United football player Dwight York. The town of Canaan is also home to Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson International Airport, which is the most important transportation point of the island. The airport was formely called Crown Point and is located 15 kilometers away from the capital Scarborough. The airport is open to domestic and international flights.
