About Brunei

Brunei, formally Brunei Darussalam, is also known as the Nation of Peace. Located in Southeast Asia, the country is ruled by Islamic Monarchy. The capital city is Bandar Seri Begawan. Its official language is Malay, but English and Chinese are also widely spoken in the country.

Brunei's economy mostly depends on petroleum and natural gas production. Although Brunei is one of the richest countries of the world, its income distribution among people is extremely unstable.

Since the country's territories and climate are inappropriate for agriculture, only a limited variety of products are planted to meet the needs of the people. Fishing is quite common in Brunei thanks to both its coastline and rivers. Since it has wide forested land, lumbering is one of the economic sectors of the country.

The country is under the influence of tropical climate, and the weather is hot and humid all year round. Coastal areas receive much precipitation especially between October and January. In the country, the temperature is measured between 24 and 32 degrees throughout the year. February and March are considered to be the most appropriate months to visit the country since they have the lowest rainfall amount.

You can see the effects of Chinese, Thai and Indonesian cuisines in the cuisine of Brunei. It is possible to find different restaurants and cafes that appeal to almost every taste. You can taste different types of seafood at one of the pleasant restaurants. You can also try tea known as ‘teh tarik’ which is unique to the country.

You should keep in mind that alcohol consumption is prohibited in public areas, and there is no sale of alcohol throughout the country.

In Brunei, you can visit the natural parks in the Borneo Forest. Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, Sultan Ömer Ali Saifuddin Mosque and Tasek Lama Park are among the places you can visit. Kg Kianggeh Outdoor Market and Gandong Night Market, where local products unique to the country are exhibited, are also among the places to visit.
