Transportation to Airport from San Diego City Center

San Diego Intl. Airport

San Diego International Airport is located 5 kilometres from the city centre, which is approximately a 10-minute drive. You can choose a variety of transportation options, including the metrobus and taxi.

Taxi

Taxis are the most commonly used mode of transportation to and from the airport. You can reach your hotel, the city centre, or any other destination comfortably by using a taxi. Taxi fares for travel to nearby neighbourhoods are generally low, however, it is important to keep in mind that taxi drivers receive a tip of up to 15%.

Metrobus

The metrobus, which is commonly referred to as ‘The Flyer’, can take you to the airport from specific bus stations in the city centre. There is also sufficient luggage space available in the metrobus. This is an easy and cheap mode of transportation.  

Shuttle Services

The shuttle service is another mode of transportation for those planning to travel to the airport from the city centre. If you want to get around the problem of transportation in a comfortable way, the shuttle service is an option to consider.   

Private Vehicle

Using your private vehicle is another option. The airport is located along Interstate 5 (I-5). You can drive to the airport by taking the State Route 163 (SR 163), the Interstate 8 (I-8), the I-15, and then by following directions. You can also park your vehicle at the airport’s car park area, but do note that car park fees are charged by the number of hours, days, and months.

There are many ways to spend your time at San Diego International Airport. You can purchase gifts at reasonable prices for those you care about at the Duty Free Americas, Gaslamp MarketPlace, InMotion Entertainment, and other stores inside the Terminal 2 building.

You can consider eating and drinking at the likes of Urban Crave, Tommy V's Pizzeria, and Starbucks. If you have time to spare before your flight, you can take advantage and relax at the spa saloon inside the terminal building.

Those who don’t want to drive in traffic can choose to take a taxi to the city center from the airport. McCarran International Airport features over 10 taxi companies that provide service to the city center. Taxis are a convenient way to get to downtown Las Vegas from the airport. There are two routes taxis can take from the airport to the city center. Taxis can go from the freeway, which ends up being a bit faster, or through the city, which is a bit more scenic as you drive down the strip but can be longer depending on traffic. Not all taxis accept credit card payments so make sure to ask the driver beforehand. Taxis are easily accessible at the terminal exits.

Bus

Buses are another method of transportation to get to the city center from the airport. Buses are a more affordable option compared to taxis. Bus routes 108 109, and the Westcliff Airport Express route serve Terminal 1; these buses are accessible from level 0. The Westcliff Airport Express and Centennial Express routes serve Terminal 3; these buses are accessible from the departures curb on level 2. Bus tickets can be purchased from the automatic ticket machines located next to the stops. You can use a credit card and purchase an hourly pass or daily pass. Shuttle

Shuttle buses are another transportation alternative to get to the city center from the airport. These group shuttles provide convenient transportation to downtown Las Vegas, making multiple stops along the way. Service providers such as Airline Shuttle and Showtime Tours provide shuttle services to most major hotels/resorts in the city 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These shuttles are accessible at the terminal exits with airport personnel ready to help passengers if needed. Rental Car

Renting a car at the airport is another convenient way to get to the city and enjoy the city during your trip. You can rent a car from the McCarran Rent-A-Car Center, which is accessible using a free shuttle service. The shuttle service to the Rental Car Center is blue and white. After you land just follow the signs to Ground Transportation, which will guide you to the Rental Car Shuttle area. You can also return your vehicle at the Rental Car Center before your departure at the end of your trip. Rental car companies that you can choose from include Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Hertz, and Thrifty.
